THE VIETNAM WAR

OAKES worked with legendary filmmakers Ken Burns and Lynn Novick on their ten-years-in-the-making documentary series THE VIETNAM WAR. Burns and Novick were looking for a cohesive design concept for the map sequences that would carry the story through all ten episodes. We wanted to get away from the traditional two dimensional map approach. Presenting the terrain of the country became a visual storytelling device that would immerse the viewer into the landscape of Vietnam.
